Inspiration
Like many others, I learned to read tarot using the Smith-Waite system. I love the history and rich symbolism of this deck. Its original illustrator, Pamela Colman Smith--also adorably known as Pixie--was a very fascinating person and I've always been inspired by her as a female artist. Naturally, I feel more connected to decks illustrated by women.
The other deck I will be referencing in creating my cards is The Hermetic Tarot by Godfrey Dowson, because I find a lot of power and meaning in it’s deep connections to astrology and the tree of life.
I’m the type of person who respects tradition and finds power in the old ways. The Prism Tarot is very much my own unique vision, but I am not so arrogant as to think I have the right to redefine what the tarot is. I don't want to mess with something that works by changing the suits or adding new cards. I want to stay true to the universal symbols that spoke to me in the first place.
