VI of Swords
Upon the realization that there is nothing left for you where you are, you decide to begin the journey towards a fresh start.
The VI of swords is symbolic of intellectual growth. In the Hermetic Tarot it is known as the ‘Lord of Earned Success.’ A figure travels across the dunes of a vast, harsh desert. Their posture is somber. They are weighed down by the 6 Swords they carry which are representative of the mental toll from their actions in the past. Along the way they begin to release them and gradually lighten the burden. Two swords have already fallen and their grip is loose on the two swords they drag behind. The others are still tightly strapped to their back. Calm, sparkling waters await in the distance—a beacon of hope.
This card is ruled by Mercury and oversees the second decan of Aquarius.
In a reading this card urges you to move on from the past. Let go of any mental baggage you may have and allow yourself to have a fresh start. Change is rarely easy and it may be difficult to let go. You may be feeling somber or depressed, but you are on the road to recovery. Hope is on the horizon. It could also be pointing to a more literal transition in your life like a new home, job, or position.
The reversed suggests a resistance to change that is negatively impacting your life. Change is necessary to move forward. Without it your life will stagnate. Focus on the positives and new opportunities instead of what you may be giving up. Perhaps you are not ready for a change because you have unfinished business to take care of where you are. It could also mean that you are undertaking a mental or spiritual journey in order to better your way of thinking.
