Sleepy Time Tarot
Do you incorporate Tarot into your bedtime ritual?
I struggle with insomnia and lately I’ve been at my wits end trying to find a way to deal with it and get the rest I need. I have tried a lot of things, some home remedies, some doctor recommended, none of them really work. So, I decided to think outside the box a bit and do something right before bed that I enjoy but could also focus my mind on, so I started pulling a single card to meditate on while I fall asleep.
I put together this pouch which contains:
A deck I find visually soothing that will only be used for this purpose
Some soothing crystals - An amethyst point, a tumbled howlite, and a crescent moon shaped hammered quartz.
A lavender sachet
I wanted to create a full sensory experience with touch, smell, and visually calming items down to the lavender colored satin pouch. I keep the pouch next to my pillow and reach for it just before bed. I also incorporate candles and gentle yoga into the routine if I’m feeling particularly wired. All of this loveliness helps to make bedtime something to look forward to instead of something I dread.
As for the card draw and meditation these are the steps I take:
Shuffle gently and repetitively until a card falls loose from the deck or you feel ready to stop.
Use a gentle gaze to get lost in the imagery until your eyes close naturally.
Imagine the images coming to life in a dream-like way, like the cups gently bobbing as they float in the air.
Ask yourself what this card is trying to tell you. Don’t obsess over the answer, but let it come naturally like sleep.
Last night I drew the IX of Cups so I asked myself, what is missing from my life? What do I need to manifest in order to fill my empty cups? What does true fulfillment look like for me? The answer never came, but I fell asleep so maybe it was that simple.
